As you may know, one-third of Malawi has been declared a disaster zone after flooding, including Mulanje where our loan offices and clients are situated.

Disasters of this scale have a huge impact on our people in the area and over 1.5 million people have been affected. Homes have been lost, crops and livestock are gone, clean water is hard to find and disease becomes rampant.

Mulanje is one of the districts very badly hit. Many of our clients have lost everything and badly need your help.

Many of our clients have lost their businesses and their livelihood.

Apart from the problems of putting the physical structure of their lives together, in countries such as Malawi, people have little savings or other resources to rebuild their lives when disasters such as this happen.

So now we urgently need your support more than ever to give our clients a hand up.

How we will help women’s groups in Mulanje

It is unlikely MicroLoan Foundation Australia will be directly involved in any direct support or clean-up work. But we will be involved in helping our clients rebuild their businesses so they can rebuild their lives.

Demand for our loans will increase to enable our clients to get back on their feet. We will also receive more requests from new clients needing a hand.

However our loan funds will be placed under pressure because our clients will need extra time to pay off the debt, meaning the money will be out of circulation for longer, effectively meaning we have less to lend.

So we urgently need your help to make sure our clients can help themselves.

An anonymous donor has offered to match your Givings.

Excitingly, on 11th February we were declared a fully tax deductible charity and to celebrate this and moved by the tragic floods, an anonymous donor, has generously offered to match up to $20,000 for any money raised this month dollar for dollar.

So you have the chance to make double the impact for every cent you give today knowing you can also claim against tax.

Make a tax deductible Gift now and get our clients in Malawi back on their feet with our emergency Malawi Flood Appeal.
